I have often wondered this myself...But they are power hunger little devils..they need atleast 8mA to run.  These will drain the crap out of your batteries.

yeah, but I don't think anyone is going to complain about the frequency response going down past 20 Hz.

That said, the frequency response isn't really going to tell you how it sounds.  only one way to find that out

i have cad>v2>ad1k sources w/ dope AM interconnects in the middle, and i like how they sound, only thin g, my good buddy runs them from ME and im not sure which model he runs

i have our big cypress copies and i think they sound real nice IMO

from the polar plot it seems like it has pretty poor off axis response compared to other LD microphones.  You can tell because of the huge +12dB boost at 12-14kHz and all of the other HF boosts on the other patterns.

I know you can't really go by charts and plots and should only judge on sound, but I'm a spec freak and those would keep me away.  Looks like more of a studio LD for certain purposes than one suitable for the field.

with all that said....all of the cheap gear continues to get better sounding IMHO as technology gets better and cheaper.  10 years ago you couldn't make a decent sounding album without the expensive stuff.  Engineers are doing every day now in their home studios.  It's all about finding what sounds best for specific purposes.  Hell, look at what the oktavas and SP C4's, and all of the other cheap microphones have done for many of us in this community!

I have a CAD M179 that I use for studio recording of my own music.  It is an excellent, quiet, and clear sounding mic.  I hook it up to an expensive mic preamp, however, but the CAD is a superb value, especially if you can find one used.
