Sonosax SX-M2/LS2 - any internal pics?
« on: December 19, 2005, 06:10:37 PM »
Ever since I started my schoeps active project, http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=48244.0, I have been wondering what they add to the LS2 in order to support the KCY cable for actives.  My taper fantasy would be discovering that it is just a simple buffer circuit and that it could be added to a V2 or V3.

Does anyone have any pics of the LS2 innards?  It sure looks like an easy box to open up  :)

If you look at the pics of the cmc6 body, there is a Lot in there. It seems unlikely that they're adding 2x that to the small LS2 case.

The question of whether the ls2 only supplies 48v is another discussion entirely  ;)

I've got the older SX-M2/LS (pair of LEMO connectors, but no Binder).  If anyone has a good photo of the Binder connector, I'd be interested to see that as I might want to add one to my box (just for more flexibility).

I hope these help.  I'll leave mine open for a while if there are more photos you want me to try taking.  Please yell if you make any progress.  I'd be interested in modding my box to provide power to capsules OR 48v phantom if it's possible, but I guess that depends on how different this box is than a standard SX-M2.  Likewise, it would be cool to have a smaller setup that could power my caps, perhaps through a small project box hanging off the 722 recorder.

I'm also including a rough schematic of the Schoeps KC5 cables as provided to me by Bill Drucklieb of Cinemasonics (who sold me the SX-M2/LS and modified my KC5 cables).  Hopefully this will also be helpful.  Please share any progress!

Here's a couple more pictures with the side panel folded down out of the way.
