SD VS CF $ wise
« on: October 01, 2010, 09:11:00 PM »
Anyone have a clue as to why CF cards remain relatively expensive while sd & sdhc cards are practically free?
CF cards have gone down in price but they are still pricey for what you get.
SD cards are half the price.

I just looked it up on EBAY.  Its item #390141932544 and is $19.99 BIN.

Get this and use the less expensive MicroSD cards...  I jsut bought a 32gb MicroSD from TigerDirect and will try it out when it arrives...  The 4gb MicroSD I have right now works great...

Also, I have (2) CF Cards I will sell you for cheap...  Both are Kingston (real) 4gb cards...

SD and CF cards do not seem to differ that much in price.  For example these prices are from newegg:

Transcend 8GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model TS8GSDHC2 = $14.30
Transcend 8GB Compact Flash (CF) Flash Card Model TS8GCF133 = $19

Transcend 16GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model TS16GSDHC4 = $29.60
Transcend 16GB Compact Flash (CF) Flash Card Model TS16GCF133 = $34

I can imagine a CF card might be slightly more expensive to manufacture due to all its pins, but I'm only guessing here.

Easy terry.
Not looking to buy just wondering.  :-*

Guess maybe I was looking in the wrong place notlance.
The ones I was looking at were around a $15-$20 difference between the two.
I just figured the CF SHOULD  :P be cheaper because it's somewhat older/bigger/bulkier.

Sorry!  Didn't mean to jump all over you...

I'm not sure what you are looking for, but I have a couple of CF Cards that I'll probably never use again.  If you want them, I'll trade them to you for a stack of MMW discs.  They are nice cards, and should work well with your deck...

And I just thought I'd throw the adapter thing out there for you.  I've had flawless performance out of mine...

Hi Terry.
Just razzin' ya.  :)  brother.
I was wondering about the adapter thing too after I had read the thread you started a while back.
The thing is with the 660 it has a door that closes over the CF card and wont power unless the door is shut.
Trying to think of a workaround right now.
Thanks for the info.

I was concerned about size and access to the adapter when I bought it...  Turns out the MicroSD Adapter, with the MicroSD inserted, is the same exact size as a normal CF Card.  The SD Version is the same, but the SD inserts from the side rather than the front for the MicroSD Version, requiring you to eject the adapter to access the SD.  This kinda defeated the purpose for me, since I didn't want to engage the pins...

I suspect that if you get the adapter, it will fit just fine, and allow you to eject the MicroSD without having to eject the adapter.
