How to power my CO2 in the field???
« on: November 12, 2003, 05:27:19 PM »
 :D ;D :D ;D :D

Just got a Midiman CO2 in the mail.  I have figured out that I am going to need a portable powersupply

So what is a good one to get.  And if I plan to get a UA-5 in a couple of months is there one that I can use with both???

You can build one from radio shack parts. & run it off a RC pack.

you'll need a RC repair kit
the right size power adapter
& the cord that fits that adapter.

Splice the rc end on the cord from the repair kit. Crimp it. put the adapter on & your done. it's about 14 bucks in parts + the Battery

Real easy to do. & if the Radio Shack employee isn't a dumbass they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Check the archive for instructions on the UA-5 cable.

Also if you don't want to build your own. Sound professionals has a cord for 5 bucks that can run it off 9v's.

But I'd go the rechargeable route.

My 1st post is the rechargeable way.

You can power the C02 off a 9.6v rechargeable RC pack.
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F004%5F010%5F000%5F000&product%5Fid=23%2D342

The stuff you need to build the cable looks like this.

(this pic if from the UA-5 cable instructions link in the archives. you will only need 1 battery.)

to build the cable you'll need

RC 9.6V Battery Pack Connector Repair Kit (Part # 23-445)

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F004%5F010%5F000%5F000&product%5Fid=23%2D445

Female-to-Female Adaptaplug Socket Cable (Part # 273-1740)

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F004%5F001%5F003%5F000&product%5Fid=273%2D1740

Then the Adaptaplug connector that fits the c02. The small white thing in the above pic. You'll have to take the C02 with you & they can match it up. I'm not sure what part # it is.

Connect the Adaptaplug to one side of the cable. It just plugs in. Line the arrows up.

Cut the other end of the Adaptaplug Socket Cable off.

Strip it like speaker wire & crimp the connector that fits the battery from the Battery Pack Connector Repair Kit.

This is real easy to do. Connect the battery, plug it into the C02 & your good to go.
You can shrink wrap the connections or use electric tape.

Good luck.
