I have just spent all morning researching high end consumer camcorders to shoot pop videos for bands on my DIY record label.  Pop videos straight to youtube, by the way.....I got anxious about low light and narrowed it down to a Panasonic SD900 and a Canon Vixia HF G10 because I was worried that in a venue lighting would be a real issue. Judging on what I see here, I guess I could spend a bit less than the cost of an SD900?

No, get yourself a proper camcorder. The SD900 is great.

Try holding a phone steady. Can you even focus manually with a phone?

If I may hijack this thread a little - mostly online the opinions are divided - get a dslr vs a camcorder. BUt every single person I have aksed personally in my town says get a dslr. I worry that this is because they are enthusiasts and would cope with s dslr better than I could. I don't really want to learn too much about it, just press the record button and let the device do my work. A dslr seemingly is recommended for low light and they are also much cheaper. What do you think?

i read this and your previous post and i would suspect neither answer is right for you,  MVs require planning and editing and alot that you dont seem interested in investing in

OK, maybe I am being a bit extreme in my lack of interest in film....I worked with students on the clips below and at times on my own. I used imovie. I didn't have a camera. The students did...so I had to pay (not much, but still enough for me to wonder about getting my own camera).......If I can get at least to this standard with one or 2 cameras in my possession, I would be happy for now.

Definitely impressive. This phone's camera & video performance are based on the Nokia N8's, which I own. I can infinitely vouche for that phone! I have recorded countless concerts with it and it never ceases to amaze me. I would like to get a 808 if only for the slightly better autofocus and the higher SPL, but I'm happy with my N8 either way. If someone wants to buy a new phone and aims to record concert videos with it, get a Nokia N8/808.

(no, Nokia, doesn't pay me at all :P)
