So the best I can tell this thing will:

1. Record 6 INDIVIDUAL tracks + 4 mixdown tracks.
2. Has 3 Phantom Power mic channels and 3 line in channels

Does that sound correct? I really don't have the funds for one of these now...but just in case my bonus at work is extra good...I could consider switching to something a little more durable and reliable than the DR-680.

My normal multitrack recording is 2ch of AUD + 2ch stereo SBD mix + 1ch individual vocal mic + 1ch individual vocal mix for a total of 6 channels. It appears I could still pull this off with this unit.

I like the ability to put the delay on the AUD source and mix it down in real time so if I get lucky I don't have to do that later. Also handy to have that extra card so I can give the band a copy after the show.

The size is much more desirable than the 664. Not to mention the price.

Is the $3095.95 a documented cost?  Not bad considering other prices for SD products.

I can see selling off some older toys for this one, like my Shure FP33, Zoom H6 and a few guitars to offset the costs.

I just did a quick search on more comparable devices and those were the nubers that I found. The point is that SD's 663 unit is competitively priced among similar units. If someone compares price against say a Tascam DR-680 or Roland R44 they are not in the same league.

This is a nice move for Sound Devices and priced better than their own 744. Curious if they'll continue 744's or phase them out.

Already in production for a while...  The SD 664  six channels of SD pre's:

True but still the 664 is much larger and doesn't support sampling rates above 48Khz (now supports up to 12 channel recording without any addon's) - Good for film work but I like recording at 96Khz or higher

Seems interesting to me. Wonder how much it costs?

"From the horses mouth £2495 for the bare mixer or £2995 if you take the
accessories package which is portabrace bag/ l series batts and audio and
TC cables (£700 if bought separately)"

That might very well be the case, but at least the 702 is still useful for those who truly desire an SD device without the extra features of this newly announced one. SD manufactures great stuff and I hope to see the 702 linger a little longer.
