Slightly different feature set - check out the specs for the differences.  To my ears, they're indistinguishable.  If you like the MP2 sound but can't find one, a MixPre will work just as well and sound the same (I've used both).

Unless something's changed, it should be identical to the Shure FP24 - the Shure is (was) simply a re-branded MixPre.

the only thing different is that it takes 5-14V DC where the mixpre will take 5-18V

Good to know.  Found someone selling that Shure pre, maybe I'll get lucky and be able to pick one up. ;)

Edit - Wow, looks exactly like an MP-2/MixPre except for the Shure logo. ;)

Since both Sound Devices and Shure need to make profit off it, it makes sense to me that the FP24 costs more.  Shure re-brands it to fill out their product line.  Large customers probably are willing to pay more to deal with Shure than to have to start a new sales relationship with a smaller company (Sound Devices).

Welp, I got a Shure FP24 for $400.  About $25 more than I wanted to spend but I couldn't find anyone else selling...

me too, on both of those points.  The problem is SP ran out of the cheap $30 adapters, so I have to plunk down $60 each for the AT ones :-\

I think I'd rather have the AT adapters to begin with.  I wont be able to send them in for mods for about a month or so, though...

I just bought a pair of the AT8533's from AT parts and service department (thanx marc).  They were $59 each.  Hopefully I have them before next friday so I can mod em before the In Flames show.
