Laptop battery back up
« on: January 24, 2006, 11:30:23 PM »
I searched for this and found nothing. Apologies if I'm search-challenged ...

I ran across a back up battery solution that's cross-platform for many laptops.

http://www.valence.com/ncharge.asp

I'm running a Dell Latitude D800 and even with two internal batteries I'm limited to 6+ hours (okay for a one-off club act but sketchy for two days at Langerado camping). The N Charge powers the laptop and/or recharges its batteries depending on how its connected. Pretty nice. It's also very slim (about half an inch) and has a smaller footprint than the laptop itself so it fits right in the same carrying bag.

I use the electrovaya pp120 and it can crank out about 5 hours with the screen on and powering the interface with Phantom. I picked it up off ebay for $80 shipped and it works for my purposes. BTW, I have a fujitsu laptop (b2175) and the extended life stock batteries can be found dirt cheap. I have a half dozen of these and hot swaping with the electrovaya, it can do about 12 hours total record time.
