okay here goes,I got one of those referbed units from ebay and I think I'm ready to start trying it out.

I currently run v3>dap1 and want to run the jb3 as a back up for the time being.so what do I need to get signal to the jb3 from the v3 and where is the best place you guys have delt with to get this stuff.

also, what would I need to transfer to the harddrive besides the disc and cables that came in the box w/the unit.

thanks in advance for your replies to my stupid questions.

Try an Advanced Search for the phrase "digital format converter" (without the quotes).  Make sure you go back farther than 60 days - you'll find one lengthy post about my bit-accuracy tests with the ODL-312, and another with a whole list of digital format converters I found online.

I think that's it.  If your PC doesn't currently do firewire, well worth spending a few bucks to pick up a firewire card.  Blazing fast transfers relative to USB.  FWIW, I sprung the $20 to buy Notmad Explorer (see Nomadness) as I like the interface better than the dufus Media Center or whatever it is that comes from Nomad.

thank you for that tidbit.  i haven't hooked my jb3 to any computer yet as my lappy is maxed waiting for an outboard drive, and waiting on delivery of new tower.  so, i'll head over to nomadness.

I use the 1.32 firmie no problems.  I think there is a 1.36 version our now that is a French version, all the same features as 1.32, but apparently the headphone volume is decreased...  And its probably in French...

Now the new firmie is 1.40.  Supposed to let you FF to the next track w/o gaps during recording, though I haven't seen it work...  Though I imagine, you could give it a buffer and blahblahblah and it would work just fine...

It has some other stuff too, but one problem that has been found is playback now has gaps at tracks whereas the 1.32 don't do that apparently (I don't know, don't use mine for playback).

I'm waiting a while to see how the tests come out, but I may update to that version to add the gapless recording feature...  Now if only they'd add a setting to automatically FF and create a new track at 3 hours!

Good luck with your Nomad, there are lots of posts about them here, search around...
