Got a JB3, but no instructions
« on: January 16, 2004, 10:56:53 AM »
Damn! I'm anxious to start learning how to use this thing.  Bought it used on Ebay, but the guy forgot to send instructions.  Is there a link anywhere? I check nomadness.com but didn't see a section for instructions.

I'd at least like to know how to tape something and then send it to my laptop.

There's also software to download to gain access to the nomad, lemme know if you need the file names, creative was kind enough to reply back to an email i sent them regarding what software was required.

The following forum has an excellent guide to taping with the Nomad:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/njb3tapers/

You need to join, but its painless, then click on the 'files' link, and NJB3Recording_1_3.txt.

Send you a copy if you like, pm me.

Hey, thanks for the post, i was reading the txt file and it was very enlightening, i came across one part of it that had me wondering:

"4) The NJB3 has a stereo analog line level female input "jack" located on
the unit. You will need a male "plug" to attach to it. These connectors are
of the 3.5mm TRS (Tip/Ring/Sleeve NOT Tandy Radio Shack) trapezoidal-tip
type commonly referred to as "Walkman headphone connectors". This is NOT an 1/8inch "mini phone" type connector! DO NOT USE A 1/8INCH PLUG IN THESE 3.5mm JACKS! It will eventually, if not immediately, break the jack and render your NJB useless for recording purposes."

 :o

Where the heck can i find a trs plug adapter so i can use a 1/8" miniplug from my batt box?   ???

Don't panic. A little searching on the NJBtapers forum reveals:

On your original question. I do NOT have a DAT, I record directly to
the Juke3 (even with its lousy metering) via a standard 1/8" mini and
use the Juke's existing analog->digital converter.

I've recorded 4 shows and LOTS of at home "practice" recordings and
the only issue has been bad sound on one live show due to failure to
get the mini plug fully inserted. This issue is discussed on the
forum in great detail. Also you can see Dave Klein's site at:

Try it out - if its causing problems:

you can
either mod the plastic casing, or go to RatShack and get an adapter or 1/8"
extender cord that will plug in fully...

I use a 1/8" mini plug from a Sound Pro battery box with no problems.

I figured a 1/8" miniplug is fine as well, but on that NJB3Recording_1_3.txt it states not to use a 1/8" as it can damage the solder joint of that particular jack...which doesn't make sense to me as the 1/8" fits perfectly in as well from my soundpro battery box.  Is the author just exaggerating?
