unless sony's getting ready to forcefeed us the next media format in a couple of years.  DCC ::)?

jr

Sony is pretty good at doing that!!   I would think that the market that was there for DAT is also there for a nice professional HD unit.   Seems like most people are going two routes latly:  jb3 or lappy.   Laptops, to me, are too big and too fragile for live taping.  Not sure about the jb3 yet.

More than likely is Sony comes out with a new recorder it will require a special cable or some other pain in the ass. :P

wasnt DCC a Phillips format?
Marantz never made a DCC unit(that I know of)...seemed like you could only find Phillips DCC decks.

a buddy of mine here in Richmond still has 1 of those decks...works pretty nice. it plays standard casettes as well

Solid State recording is going to be it. The marantz looks cool:

http://www.american-digital.com/prodsite/product.asp?p=1099&c=192&name=MarantzPMD670

but note where it says "when media becomes available" for duration of recordings. 64 Mb isnt enough for the tuning up!

No moving parts. Memory sticks...like StarTrek. And sony is the king of memory sticks.

the marantz PMD 670 is only 16 bit though!

Then again, Sony was going to discontinue the venerable old D-5 back in the early 80's, and the tapers made such a big run on them, they kept them in the line for another 5 years.

If Creative would add line/optical recording capabilities to the JB3 Zen, I'd be 2 or 3 of them.  THAT'S a stealth unit.
