Title: Desktop speaker stands?
Post by: Jeremy Lykins on October 13, 2016, 10:32:26 PM
I just bought a set of Fostex PM0.5d speakers and I really like them, but I need to get them about 5"-6" off of my desk and I can't really find anything in that size range.  It seems like all I can find are the little wedges that angle the speakers up (I'm using pieces of styrofoam to do that now) or floor stands, so I'm tempted to just get a couple of blocks of wood to sit them on but I don't want to lose that desktop space.  I found some stands that are almost exactly what I'm looking for, but they only make them 9" high plus the price range for them is $160-$250!  I think that they'd be overpriced at $50 (although I'd still buy them) so I don't know why they're so expensive.

So since they're just C-shaped pieces of aluminum, could I just go to a local metal fabricator and ask them to bend a couple strips of aluminum (or whatever metal) into that shape?  Or are there other speaker stands that are similar or maybe some other product that would serve the same purpose?

Expensive but good.. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1177292-REG/isoacoustics_aperta_blk_aperta_stands_black.html

You could also look at these..just build the base up an inch or two with some painted thin cinderblock or wooed plank.  The nice thing is you can tilt your speakers toed in point at your ears, not to mention the foam isolation.

I'm also looking for some decent desktop monitor stands but haven't decided yet which one to buy.

Depending how small your speakers are, Audioengine sells desktop speaker stands (more like rubber plastic wedges) for the Audioengine 2 speakers that angle them at your ears. They cost around $30 for the pair.

Late to the party, but only just got here.  :D

I have some of these: http://www.isoacoustics.com/?page_id=142 (http://www.isoacoustics.com/?page_id=142) which are somewhat cheaper I think than those already mentioned.

I've been very impressed with them. They certainly seem to have tightened things up in the low mids and bass...

I went for the gear4music desktop stands in the end.

In fact, I had to return my first pair because the threading of one of the stands was faulty (but their customer service was pretty good and they exchanged the faulty pair without further ado). So far, I'm really happy with these stands.

I use ISO-Acoustic and have been very satisfied with them. Check their website to find a set that will fit your speakers at the desired height.
