can someone explain what the hertz is for on the akgc480b mics and when you would use what hertz.Thanks.

Sure! From the manual:

The incorporated bass-cut filter reduces the risk of distortion at low frequencies. This feature is especially useful in combating wind noise or stage floor vibration. The slope of the bass-cut filter is more than 12 dB/octave, the cut-off frequency may
be set to 70 Hz or 150 Hz.

I would not recommend using the low-cut filter for live concert recordings. It's typically better to apply a low-cut in post and the slope (12 dB/octave) is going to remove far more bass than necessary.

In contrast, the attenuation switch can be very useful in high SPL situations since the 480s are quite sensitive in the 0dB position (20 mV/Pa at 1K). In comparison, Scheops/MBHO/Neumanns are ~12-14 mV/Pa.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you're referring to. The 480s don't have plus 8 or minus 8, they have -10dB and +6dB settings and I would never recommend using the +6dB function given how sensitive they already are at 0dB.

I ran 480's for years with a 148, unless I was onstage I never had to use the attenuation switch, I always ran 0db. I also never used the roll off, it's best to do any roll off (if necessary) in post. You'll be fine recording most typical rock shows with the 480's at 0db & the 148 which is 20db, you may need to add a little from your recorder depending on where your levels end up. Great combo, enjoy!

I think this is sage advice, but the 480s have the most blazing ass hot output I've seen.

Leave them at 0.
With the brick's built in -20db padding, you may have to set your record levels fairly high
to get close to 2 on the meter

Built in -20dB pad? Can you point us to some specs/documentation for that? My understanding is that the m148 has a fixed +20dB gain and it wouldn't make much sense to pad the input, only to then apply an equivalent amount of gain.

This thread is about as much info as I can easily find these days. Perhaps there is more info archived elsewhere.

Hi & Lo is correct- my bad.
I remember asking Doug why I was having to boost levels with the  148 vs my 248 using 480s
and misheard his response I guess.
