Rycote 037338 Duo-Lyre Microphone Shockmount - New product?
« on: February 15, 2016, 03:54:29 PM »
I just came across the Rycote 037338 which looks very interesting, but I can't find any info on it anywhere, including on the Rycote site.  It uses the same lyre system as the INV-7 HG mkIII.  This one just has a flat base with a threaded mount; no tilt adjustment like the HG.  And it's $30 cheaper!  Anyone familiar with this mount?  B&H seems to be the only ones who carry it.

An online rep at B&H informed me that the thumbscrew shown is a 3/8" thread, which is great news, which means it mount on all the sorts of hardware we use all the time without an adapter.  You just wouldn't have the tilt adjustment.  That's fine with me, as I made my own DIY lyre mounts to save money and because I didn't need the tilt adjust.  Actually, this is almost exactly like the custom-machined solution jcb posted in that same thread.

I may pick up one of these up to hold a stereo bar, as the INV-7 HG mount is doing in the picture below.  You wouldn't need the tilt adjust for this application, so this other mount seems perfect.

I'm not 100% sure it is really a new product, but there's nothing about it anywhere else, and I find it very odd that it's not on the Rycote site.  I'm emailing Redding right now, who is the Rycote distributor here.

Interesting, I prefer to have the tilt though for some configs I run so I'll stick with the INV-7 HG MIII.

What model/size softies are you using in the photo?

Not my photo.  It's from Shapeways, the CM3 Wide ORTF Mount I have on order.

When I do run my CM3s outdoors, I use the Rode WS8 which works beautifully.

You could simply use an umbrella holder for the tilt?

This is very unB&Hish for there not to be any details about this other than a picture and a price.  They don't even give the size of the mic bodies this fits unlike the other Rycote mounts.

Update: I just received an email back from Redding.  It seems that this actually has a 1/4" thread, and they recommended yet another model I've never seen:

Quote
This mount has a 1/4 inch thread to mount directly onto a camcorder. For your purposes, the best bet would likely be Rycote's Universal Shotgun mount. It has 3/8 inch threads for mounting on a boom pole or stand, as well as a hot shoe adapter to mount on a camera. It uses the same lyres as the INV-7HG III. It is available on B&H at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1155648-REG/rycote_037340_universal_shotgun_mount_for.html.

Thanks,

So this other mount really does seem like a cheaper version of the INV-7HG, including tilt.

I think for my application I may still be more interested in the first one I linked just because it's much more low-profile.

Ahh, Shapways.  I've been thinking of picking up one of the ORTF mounts after reading through the dedicated thread on them here.  Thanks!

Thanks but not gonna happen, don't want the extra weight and as mentioned my INV-7 HG mIII already includes the tilt.
