Attenuation for Mix Pre-D

Not sure if this topic would fit under pre-amps or cables?

My Mix-Pre D runs so hot. I cant really dial the gain above 1.5 

I know there are some threads about this, but I'm wondering if anyone has a link to product that's worked well for them?

I had that problem with the original Sound Devices MP2.  If the Mixpre-D is like that, you could use the 1/8" tape out instead of the XLR outs, which runs something like 6-10db lower.  Or of course run the AES digital out to your 722, 661, etc.

For attenuator cables/adapters, I'd recommend Jon at Naiant:

Highly customizeable, he should be able to set you up with whatever you need.  I've always built my own attenuator cables when I've needed them, but based on Jon's other work and his knowledge and build quality, I'm sure you couldn't go wrong with his attenuators.

I have a mixpre-d too and I assume the OP means that the mic-ins are too sensitive.
If so, try the Shure A15AS, th AT8202 or some of the pads from Naiant.

I used the mixpre-d with the AT pads at a Part Chimp show last year (= insanely loud) and the -30dB were absolutely needed.

Yes, that's right. Mic In is too sensitive. I've been pretty much exclusively using the AES out to my Marantz PMD661
