mbho differences?
« on: July 25, 2003, 02:20:40 AM »
Hi, I'm new here, I live in Chile and our language is spanish so excuse me for my english.
I need to know what are the differences beetwen MBP 603 A and MBP 648 A and if those can be used without the actives cables, I'm looking for a stereo mic system that could be used with and without cables and with cardioids, omnis and fig8 caps.

Thanks in advance!

I believe the 648 is missing the active cable option.  I would get the 603's.

603 - No Actives
603a - With Actives
648a - With Actives, but "a fixed capsule attachment"

So I'm asuming you always have to use the active cables with the 648a while you don't have to use the active cables on the 603a if you didn't need/want to

I'm not sure if they sound any different though.

erick,

yo tengo MBHO's.

(please excuse my spanish, i only took 3 years in HS and 1 year in college)
Get the 603A's. There seems to be a slight difference in frequency response when using the 648's with some of the more expensive (Large diaphragm) capsules like the ka1000 and KA1100 mics.... but there will be NO difference in frequency response when using the ka200n (cardioid) capsules with the  603a versus the 648A.

In the case of  648a/ka1000  versus 603a/ka1000, you will get better response using the 648's.
But for the extra money, i don't know that it's worth it. I would suggest sticking with the
603a/ka200n system... and possibly consider buying a 2nd pair of capsules for other situations (hypercardioid, or Omni).... but the ka200n will remain the most versatile of the capsules in the MBHO family.

Hope this helps  ;D
and welcome to team MBHO!!!!! :)

Gracias Amigos,
Ian,
There's a question that don't have an answer there, can you tell me if those 603A you can use them without actives cables?

Where You purchase them? and how much for the kit?

I used a pair of MBHO 603A/KA200 for a while.  You can use the 603A with or without the active cables.  I usually used them with the active cables, but occasionally did not use the active cables and just ran the caps on the bodies.

I picked mine up used.  Check out Sonic Sense or Oade Bros for a new pair (anyone recommend other new options?).  For used, keep an eye out here, on Oade.com, or EBay.  The 603A/KA200 new are about USD$1,600, used I've seen them for right around USD$1,000.

FWIW, I liked the MBHO's a lot when I used them.
