Which cardioids in addition to my DPA 4061 omnidirectionals?
« on: December 11, 2007, 04:15:24 PM »
I´m leaning towards the low-sens-modded SP-CMC-8 cardioids as a round-up in addition to my DPA 4061´s.
HAD the low-sens-modded SP-CMC-4U and default(high) sensitivity SP-CMC-8 last year.
OR should I wait for the DPA miniature cardioids which are supposed being released next year?
 ???

Already had these cardioids:
Church STC-11
MM-HLSC-1(Sennheiser MKE40´s)
SP-CMC-4U low sens modded
SP-CMC-8 default(high) sensitivity

STEALTH-USE is top-priority! ;)

I have the low-sens SP-CMC-8's, but have yet to use them. (lull with no shows)
Busman Audio BSC1-K1/K2/K3/K4 > HiHo Silver XLR's > Deck TBD

CA-14 (c,o)/MM-HLSC-1 (4.7k mod)/AT853(4.7k mod)(c,o,h,sc)/CAFS (o)/CA-1 (o) > CA-9100 (V. 4.1)/CA-9200/CA-UBB > Sony PCM-D50/Sony PCM-M10

on dimeadozen.org you can find some shows with low-sens-modded sp-cmc-8.
search for user "inconnu" or "sp-cmc-8".

Thanks Arni, I will have to download some of those.  Most/all the shows I stealth seem to be high SPL shows, so I figured on getting the mod done to avoid any distortion or brickwalling issues.

My vote would be for either the Church cardioids (as-is, already modded), or Sennheiser MKE40 (need 2.2 or 4.7k mod).  The Senns will have more detail, but not as much bass as the Church cards.  Although, I have found I often don't want that much bass as it is usually too much at many shows.

I like the sp-cmc-8 low-sens-modded sound more than the church or HLSC cards.
just ordered them with low-sens-mod + light-weight-cable for stealth-use and standard clips as I didn´t like the AT rotating clips last time.

I was just thinking I could have let you borrow mine if you didn't pull the trigger, but too late reading the above post.

DPA 4022

http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=151096

Thx ;), need to win the jackpot before I can afford this step  ;D.
The Police recording(USA date) done with the "sp-cmc-8" 22 rows in front of the left stack sounds brillant too.
Hopefully DPA releases miniature cardioids additionally to the yet released 4080 card.

i'm curious, how can microphone madness sell the MKE-40 for about $250 a pair when one of these is over that price....is he buying the components (ie. the caps) and assembling the mics with other cable, etc.? I assume that is the case....same goes for the Omni mic of this kind i assume.....thanks for any info.

also, can the stock MM MKE-40's be modded to 3 wire and run thru a 3 wire BB? would that be a better option that doing the 2.2k or 4.7k mod if those would work?
