Hello everyone. I have been helping put together my godsons playhouse and as a reward my brother in law gave me a pair of these suckas for nothing. I was just wondering exactly what an "Active" speaker was ??? Doesnt it mean that I dont need a receiver to plasy audio thru them ??? Because I hooked them up to my JVC RX600V Receiver thru the tape out and nothing was coming from the Sony's ??? Isnt it true that since theyre active I can just get a Y-Adapter to go from 1/8" Stereo>RCA plugs and Im in business w/ the Sony's ??? No receiver needed and one helluva a small sterero setup later :)

So please correct me if I'm wrong and could someone please lead me in the right direction about what I need to get these SOny's THUMPIN'

Thanks in advance,
Bean

P.S.- Oh and does anyone know how much these cost per pair ??? I cant find anything w/ google and prices

My goal is to go from my 120GB Zune>1/8" Stereo Y Adapter>RCA jacks>Sony SA VA-15 if it will work since these are "Active" whatever that means!

If they are active monitors.........they have a amplifiy already built into the spaeker.  All you need to do is plug the speakers in ac...........then attach a line level source....line out or pre out from a reciever.......and they should work...

Typically Active monitors are considered studio monitors.....these would also be great for a computer speakers that is if you have the right kind of outs from your computer card....but there are adapters for everything...................ipod should work too with the right cable....

Nevermind these aren't studio monitors.  They are active home theater speakers...I don't believe they are made anymore.

So yeah all I need is an 1/8" Stereo Mini>2xRCA Jacks and I can go from 120GB Zune>SA VA-15's, correct ??? Am I missing something or is it really that easy ??? I actually think its really that easy.

Radio SHack, I hope youre open on Sundays because I will seek you out bright and early tomorrow.

I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT if my system was really that small and sounds as good as I think it will, plus I'll always have my JVC RX-6000V>Bose cubes as my 2nd setup strictly for TV and movies :)

And is my Zune going to be enuf to push the speakers ??? I mean since theyre "ACTIVE" they def should be able to since the only input on the speakers are RCA Jacks which are unbalanced anyway........

The speakers themselves if powered will drive the speakers....the zune will just provide the signal....the speakers should do all the amplification...

1/8 inch to RCA should be all you need.....

BINGO!!!! All I needed was an 1/8" Mini>2xRCA Y-Adapter and my Zune>Sony Active SA VA-15's setup is TINY as all hell and COMPLETE! Now I need a soundcard to run my PC into the speakers as well and I'll be in business. My Audiophile 24/96 has RCA Outputs but I tried them and that didnt see to work ???

Whatever tho, I'm THRILLED my setup is so small and sounds so HUGE ;D 8)

Does ANYONE have ANY IDEA how much these used to sell for new ??? Mine were brand new never been hooked up when I got them. They were just dusty as hell from  sitting in a basement for god knows how many years :)

Thanks for your help and re-assurance OOK!

My Audiophile 24/96 has RCA Outputs but I tried them and that didnt see to work ???

In your M Audio Delta Control Panel software, check your monitor mixer, see if'n you have WavOut 1/2 checked (solo)....that should fix it  :)
