windows 2000 bios update
« on: December 15, 2002, 07:11:59 PM »
Hey, sorry for this having to do nothing with taping...well, I am hoping it speeds up my burner performance, does that count.  How in the hell does one do a bios update on a system running a narced copy of windows 2000 pro without start-up discs?  I read I could use dos drivers, but that sure as hell didn't work.  If anyone knows how to do this, and can point me in the right direction, I would be very, very appreciative!

Thanks

Daryan Lenz

BIOS has no relation to the OS and can be updated by the manufacturer, usually by a DOS Floppy image. You may want to try putting your hard drive and burner on different IDE chains. Keeping your BIOS up to date usually cleans up BIOS to OS problems, but rarely increases perifreal performance. Let me know how you make out!

I am using at hp xt878 with a 1700+ amd athalon.  I got it all figured out and working, and here is what I did.  I went to bootdisk.com, got an windows 98se start-up disk.  Then, because I couldn't for the life of me get the bios update onto a floppy, I burned the bios update files onto a cd-rom.  I started up, loaded the windows 98se start-up disk into the virtual ram deal with cd access support.  Then, I accessed the cd drive, using the dos command prompt, and ran the bios update...worked like a charm.
