Whether any of the following have it in stock I haven't checked.

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&as_epq=429499&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=50&as_occt=any&safe=active&q=%22429499%22&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=960678232675260204&sa=X&ei=EJlmTf3nLo-p8AaqubXKCw&ved=0CEkQgggwAA#

Just FYI to all, I ordered it from adorama because it was not listed as back ordered - bought it and everything, and just now got an email saying it is backordered.  UGH.  I'll probably cancel and just get everything from B&H.

Is there a reason you want the Matthews over the Bogen 099b? The Matthews is smaller, but the Bogen extends much taller. My experience with the quality and customer service of Matthews was a bit disappointing as well. I have both, but can't really ever see myself using the Matthews again.

I want the smaller one - I have a light stand if I need 13 feet.  For clamping, it'll already be as high as the soundboard to start, and I just need something that will fit in my bag.  Also, my mics are almost weightless, so strength isn't really an issue.

Should work fine then but be careful when tightening the sections. My top ring cracked while tightening and I wasn't cranking on it or anything. Plenty of people own this and have apparently not had an issue, so it was probably just an out-lier.

FYI, I got my extension pole in today (with a manfrotto 90 degree adapter as well), and it's black not silver:

Care to unload the Matthews?

The 2nd ring on mine cracked last night. Still held, but disappointing since it's only ~6mo old. I think I'll try the Bogen.

I guess I don't tighten it too much.  My mics weigh nothing.

Definitely didn't over tighten, it was approaching "firm" when I heard/felt the PING! My mics (AKGs) were fine last night fortunately, but for balcony clamping and hanging I don't think I'll risk it.

If you need something on the "shorter" end of the Matthews 429499 extension, I would recommend the Manfrotto 122B.  Length is 21" to 33.5" and is very durable; I've had mine for a few years and beat the hell out of it with no issues.  Can also be had with a base for on-stage placement.

I think what FCB is recommending here is the non-generic version of the Impact gear I mentioned above.  I would recommend manfrotto's base over the Impact one as it tightens better. I'm always a little scared the Impact one will come loose and turn unless I've taped it to something.
