Maybe I missed something, but there don't seem to be any level markings on the meters.
music > microphones > a recorder of some sort

Is this a good competitor -- or a viable replacement -- for USBPre2? I do like my USBPre2, but might be placed in the position of recommending something like this sooner or later. Is it safe to keep recommending the USBPre2 regardless of their price difference?

Amir...as long as you have 120v AC (or what ever the standard is in your country as long as it is with in AC 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz) It would be a good competitor to the USBPre2...I find the pre's on my DR680 to be a bit dark...not a bad thing if you have microphones that tend to the other side of the spectrum IMO...If I recall correctly the DC powered SD pre's are on the other side of the pre color spectrum - clean clear
