Anyone ever use a Samson Mixpad 4???
« on: May 24, 2003, 03:22:23 PM »
My question is about battery life of a mixpad 4. On the website it says batteries will last 12 hours, but can you run one with phantom on for that long? I just wanted to make sure before I go out and tape. THANKS!

I run it.  Glad someone asked about this.  I run AKG C1000s with it.  I love it.  I dont get 12 hours with it.  I get about 9 with phantom and never tried it with out phantom.  Only problem is that i run through 9vs like crazy.  Those crappy $1 batteries you get about 6 hours and nice enegizers you get the 9 hours.  Dave from micsupply is working on an alternate method of running it.  But i think itll be interesting to see what happens.  I looking to get a SBM1 to run with it.  That would be my rig until a got some earthworks.  Thatll be the day.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm going to buy rechargables eventually, but untill then I'll be able to run good batteries for at least two shows right, 9 hours? THANKS!

i ran into a guy at a panic show once that had one he was powering with an 8 or 12 D sled...cant remember exactly

he said it would run for a week solid...probably a slight exaggeration, but a sled would probably work well.

yo know one of those little do-hickeys you can get from rat shack that holds 8,10, or 12 D-cell batteries.

I'm not sure if you wire a plug for the ac jack onto the sled or wire it into the battery contacts.

anybody else help out here..

Well, what are the voltage requirements.  A 2 d-cell in parrallel runs 12volts continuous I think.  3xD cell's would give you roughly 18 volts DC.  Does that sucker require 18?  Seems like a lot.
