Analog into the P2 - the differences jump right out at you. AD2K+  - I still prefer the PSP-2 but the V2 was a very close second.

That is a curious result..  How did the psp2 > p2 compare to the psp2 > ad2k?

PSP-2 > P2 and PSP-2 AD2K were pretty close. The AD2K had a fuller, more detailed sound, but was not light years ahead of the P2. Better, but not  :o. That said, I will probably be using this as a bit-bucket. At this point I am not very satisfied with the mods. I may sell and pick up the SD 702 - if that does not satisfy me analog-in from my pre's I'll be lugging that AD2K around forever ;D It just sounds so damn good ;)

Still hoping we'll get some mytek vs ad2k comps...  Heck, I haven't even heard 722 vs. ad2k.  Solo guitar, rock, anything..

Yea, that's what we need. Before I go and blow and grand, I need to know how that adc in the 702/722 stacks up to the ad2k. If it falls short, I keep the P2 as a bit-bucket. I really wanted a smaller rig to run for theaters, low pro situations, etc..., but I just can't find the perfornamce of the AD2K in a standalone box, hence the need for more comps.

Ok, we need a 722, a Mytek, I have the AD2K - come on, let's do this.....

edit: I want to start a thread with some comps of the P2 and various pre's; what is the best way to post the samples? Right now, I have several 2496 2min samples - they average about 70mb - should I flac and post - resample/dither - mp3 - what is the best route here? Thanks all....

I was really tired when I did my listening last night - I may have been a bit hard on the P2 - re-evaluation and posting to follow - thanks for bearing with me  ;D

In the past few years I have been running the V2 prety hot (balanced connection to ADC20 or AD2K) - but my old, uynbalanced rig (V2 -> SBM1) - I would run the V2 between 10db and 20db and have the SBM around 8 or 9 (depending on venue, location, etc).. Sounded nice without the noticeable 'artifacts' from higher gain settings. Example: at The Dead thing in 8/02 Apine, I ran V2 > ADC20, wit the V2 at +45 to get good levels. Levels peaked at 0, only 1 or 2 db attenuation needed on the pre, and easily one of the worst recordings I have made. Flat, no depth or dynamics, muffled sounding, unfocused....

I did run hot but did not clip....

Tried several different mic configs over the weekend and ended up with pretty much the same results....  always chalked it up to a too hot V2...

did the v2 only get weird at high-gain when running an unbalanced output kyle? i would think this shouldnt matter if running balanced outs ???

Someone posted my comp text and links to my samples on a public mailing list without bothering to ask permission. I consider that Extremely rude.

who did that, and where?

:shrugs shoulders:  Eh, it's just like posting a show recording - once it's in the public domain, it's...well, in the public domain and all control is gone.  Does everyone here ask for permission before posting information from other websites?  Definitely not.  Is it a big deal?  IMO, no.

Posting the files does not make them public domain. It wasn't a show recording.. I paid good beer for that noodling.

And I don't serve files to the general public from that borrowed server.

I didn't say it makes them public domain, I said it puts them IN the public domain.  You posted them to TS.com.  TS.com is publicly accessible (after all, one only needs a free email addy to "register").  Therefore, yeah - you did post them to the general public.  And we all know the general public is made up largely of dolts and pinheads.

I think you should ask for your beer back.

Thinking seriously about the DAV BG1 . . .

Could this inverter be an alternative to the Exeltech, if the cig lighter adaptor were modified?

Even if it would work, will the Exeltech be a better choice?

And could it be used in conjunction with a Li-on pack like one of these?

Guess this could go in the power topic, but since it's come up here . . .

I would make very certain that it is a true sine wave and not a modified sine wave... I get nervous when the mfg isn't really disclosed.  That's a good price if it is.

I haven't tried to hose battery packs.. Not sure if the "Regulated" bit means they are putting the juice through a circuit which modifies the voltage. If so, I'd be a little wary of any noise in the 12v.
