TA4F's replacements? adapters?
« on: August 13, 2009, 04:15:30 PM »
So i just got two countryman b3's that have TA4F on the end.
Is there a good way to go from TA4F to either 3 pin mini XLR or full size XLR? I need to figure out how to power these with the TA4F's on there or switch them out for something else.

you would have to build a custom cable that went from TA4M to TA3F or TA3M

those little buggers get expensive, its cheaper and quicker to just cut em off and put the ones you want on there

Many of these small condenser mics used in wireless systems use a TA4F connector, but don't use all 4 pins (often pin 4 is NC).  Why not just use a TA3F or a stereo 3.5 mm?

Anyway, if for some reason you want to swap out the TA4F for a TA3F, I have some in the Yard Sale.  Cheap.

OK. I think, maybe i have not had enough sleep. I don't think I follow what you are saying. Do you mean why don't I replace the TA4F with a TA3F or a 3.5mm?  or...........................?

You should replace the TA4F with whatever works for YOU.  If your pre-amp inputs accepts XLR, then replace the connector with that.  Or, if your pre-amp inputs are 3.5 mm TRS, then use that.

My comment concerned the TA4F connector that is often put on by the manufacturer on lav mics.  I don't understand why a 4 pin connector is used when only 3 pins are needed.

When I purchased my Sennheiser MKE 40 used, they had TA4F connectors. It was simple to convert them to TA3F- all you need are the new connectors and solder. Typically the extra wire is just a second shield.
You either record it or it's gone forever.

Ok. That's what I thought. Thanks.
