Topic: Upgrading my rig. SP-XLRM-MINI-2?

Dear TS,

I have always recorded using SP-CMC-2 (AT831) > SPSB-1 > Zoom H2 (mic-in w/ power off due to broken line-in)

I am now in the process of updating my equipment (keeping in mind I'm on a budget).
Step 1) I've picked up an iRiver H120 (plan on doing CF-Mod too)
Step 2) I've picked up a bm2p+ UA-5

Purpose of the UA-5:
1) Use as preamp
2) Use as ADC
But NOT use phantom power (which is why I'll keep using the battery box)

What I would like to do is keep using the Mics and Battery box and basically run:
SP-CMC-2 (AT831) > SPSB-1 > bm2p+ UA-5 (optical out) > (optical in) iRiver H120

My questions are (reason I posted in Cables forum):

What is the best way of connecting the battery box to the UA-5?
1/8 female > 2x XLR male? Will this do the job? (with phantom power of UA-5 turned off)

What is the best way of going ua-5 optical out > optical in on the iRiver?
Would RCA > 1/8 inch be the way to go here?

The female 1/8 > XLR will work fine.  You can also go female 1/8 to r/l RCA input on the back if the unit, although I am not sure if the mod is on the RCA inputs also.

Going digital from the us5 to iRiver you will need a optical toslink to optical mini.

So for UA-5 > iRiver optical, something like this:

Correct.  You also need to make sure you have the optical input setting engaged on the iRiver.
