Mogami W2791

(1/1)

obsidian:
My Son and I have fiddled around in the past with making some (very) amature mics and we would like to give it another go. I am looking for a cable that is very thing, but EXTREMELY durable and flexible. After reading some stuff on Mogami I came across the w2791 series. Has anyone used this series before and would this "fit the bill" so to speak?

If it helps, the mic capsules we intend to use are Primo EM184 Cardioids.

This may be better for you - it has four conductors in much smaller gauge but it is almost half the outer diameter - .115 inches compared to .217 for the Mogami.

I have used it a lot in the past for making interconnects - it is very durable and super flexible.

Thank you !!

Just saw this so it might be too late, but if you haven't moved forward yet, you might want to check out the Mogami lavalier mic cable, either w2697 or w2901.

They are both 2 conductor plus shield/ground, so if that covers the conductors you need, it might be easier to work with over the 1804a. Both are smaller in diameter compared to the 1804a, the 2901 is only 0.085" so really small.  The w2901 looks like it has even better specs compared to the 2697 (other than smaller AWG wire) and has great flex life.

I found it hard though to find the w2901 other than bulk spools, so I recently went with the 2697 for a right-angle interconnect and XLR mic cable project.  I've used the 1804a on projects previously and both the 1804 and 2697 (and presumably 2901) are great cables, can't go wrong no matter which way you choose.  For smaller size and easier production though, mogami might work better over the 1804.

The chopped/stubbie right-angle XLR cables I made with the w2697 are great -- make using my Line Audio CM3 mics (light and only about 3" long) like using active mics.

I noticed those at the Phil Lesh show and forgot to ask you about them.  I'm glad you posted about it here because I may try my hand at making some.
