Whats the best way to power a Marantz PMD-671 ACM
« on: January 17, 2007, 04:06:39 PM »
So many options  :-\ internal rechargeable seem ideal, but are they reliable and how many hours do you get with phantom power? I have also heard problems about the sled and its connectivity. How long will a non-rechargeable AA batteries last? How many hrs can you get out of an Eco-Charge E90 with this deck?

Thanks

3 gerbils in spin wheels.... If you have enough pellets you are good to go for hours.

If you need more power, three wookies on a larger wheel, trying to reach for a kind veggie burrito.  Seriously, the power options are almost endless.  Lithium ion rechargables are the easiest and lightest.  Don't know the draw on the 671, but they make them for essentially every voltage.

PM leehookem here on the site.  He runs the ACM671 and really pulls some of the best tapes I've heard in a while.

I prefer the energizer lion rechargeables. Don't use the ones that are greater than 2500mah. The nipple on the end is too short (unless it's cold outside.) ;D

I prefer the maha 801cfd(?) charger. It has the conditioning cycle and will charge 8 AA's in a max of 2 hours on slow charge or an hour on fast.

i'm more of a fan of external power.  less things to worry about.

any ol' source of power between 9-15v and a power rating of ...around 4000mAh will be all you need for 4 hours or so of reliable recording time.

The BG 10-14-88 says it will do 12V~14V.

You should trade those 2700's for some 2500's. The tit on the end of the 2700 is not long enough to make good contact in the battery sled. I learned this the hard way(as have many others). Do yourself a favor and don't go over 2500 Mah.

fwiw....
i'm building a few superbaddass battery system out of toshiba laptop parts.  the finished product is flat, small (a little larger than the wally batts, but way thinner), outputs about 11v and its 5600mAh.

these are not the jamie lutch models.  different parts that I just happened to pick up a wholesale lot of.  they will be solid.!  I'm pumped to build one for myself.  the flat pack makes for easy packing in the gear bag.  Pictures pending....

fwiw, these will be perfect for the 671s.
