Title: Anyone want to transfer something for me ($$$)
Post by: phishmarisol on April 29, 2004, 02:01:23 AM
I'll try to keep this short and simple.  I have footage of a friend's band on a Hi-8 tape.  I want it transferred to VCD or DVD.  I will send the tape to you and cover the shipping of the tape and the vcd/dvd back to me.  I will also pay you for the service...in money, shows, ???...If need be I can possibly get it transferred to a vhs tape if that would help.  PM me if you can help.

Wish I had time or I'd help, just find someone with a Sony Minidv cam, it has a built in converter/passthru so you can capture the feed on a comp as dv and then burn to DVD.  Or I suppose anyone with a regular comp video capture card too..  I don't know what you were gonna pay someone, but you can pick up one of these cards cheap..

Do you want it straight dumped?  How long is it?

I can get it into a computer via a high end dazzle media device or an ATI vid in card. You can pick whichever. The dazzle is nicer. Then it can be VCd'd at whatever quality you want or svcd'd. Some trade for tunes is good by me, too. Unless you can send me a DAP1 to cover my end :)
The Vhs dump is simple. Just hookup your camcorder to the VCR and tape it.
Lemme know

I can dump it via Sony MiniDV cam via firewire.

arent hi8 tapes like 3 times too big to fit into minidv cams?
i have a bunch of old home movies on hi8 and they dont fit into my new camcorder heh.
(ok not 3 times as big. thatd' be a vhs, but at least 1.5 times.)

forget alla that.  find someone w/ a digital 8 camcorder.  digi8s can play hi8 and 8mm tapes.  you can use that to dump the footage from the camera to your hd via firewire.

I have a digital 8 cam that I use only for transfers.  I can dump it to dvd for ya if you'd like?  It'll take a couple days for me to do though.
