Experiences with 7 pin optical ->JB3?
« on: May 27, 2004, 10:39:56 AM »
So, my Hosa ODL 276 is backordered from full compass until the second coming (great price, but the wait is a bitch). I have a 7 pin->optical (POC-DA12P) that could run from my SBM-1 to my JB3...anyone have any bad experiences using this cable? According to the folks on the JB3 list on Yahoo, there is a potential from problems, especially when you run it out of an SBM-1. Just want to know what kind of statistical range I'm looking at in terms of dropouts, clicks, etc.

Thanks

Two days, two weeks...who knows. It was supposed to be shipped to me on Tuesday (yesterday), but Full Compass never got a shipment from Hosa. Oh well.

I'm just going to run the 7 pin from the SBM-1 this weekend. It's not like it's the end of the world if I get a few blips, plus I'll have learned something through experience, which is always good.

Thanks guys!

exactly... just use the same caution you would with other optical cables.

I ordered mine from Cascade Media for 75 bucks shipped.  back-ordered as well.  Steve from CM said it would be sent out today directly from HOSA.

We'll see.

I ordered mine on 4-20 from Full Compass. The arrival time keeps getting pushed back. I'm hoping it hasn't been discontinued or they made a design change (no longer bit accurate).

guyz, if it really comes to that, just snag an odl-312 and make a coax>aes cable to go optical, simple really, and i believe if its a short run of cable, no converter is needed to go from 110ohm to 75 ohm.....

I finally heard back from Full Compass and they say they won't be getting in 312'a or 276's until mid July! If you want one before that, you may need to look into another vendor.

Well, I ran my 7 pin->JB3 this weekend, and at first blush, I don't have any problems...I recorded three full sets, and didn't have a click, a pop or a dropout the entire time. Now, if only I had been able to keep my batteries alive the whole time on the JB3....(but that's another story--I forgot to turn off the remote! Doh! Time to get another battery....)

But yeah, I can vouch for the 7 pin. I used a right angle toslink->mini plug, and didn't touch the cable once I was recording. So...yeah...no fear.

Oh, and Full Compass laid the bad news on me as well. I cancelled the sale. Should problems begin to arise, I suppose I'll throw down on a 276, but if it ain't broke.....

Anyway, thanks guys!

i have problems running the POC-DA12P out of the back of any SBM-1, fyi.

the same cable works like a champ if i run it out of the back of a d8, but if i'm using the sbm-1, no dice.   this indicates to me the cable & my right angle mini-tos adapter is fine... but when i try it with any sbm-1 -- and i've tested it with four -- it's got clicks all over the place.

hrmph.

I went for the right angle cable from Sound Pro, $25 but no adaptors required...
