Audio Technica AT831CW a good mic?
« on: December 06, 2003, 04:58:10 PM »
Hello,

I am thinking of getting a mono mic to tape shows under certain situations.  I came upon the Audio Technica AT831CW Miniature Cardioid.

Is this a good one?

A place called http://www.zzounds.com/ has it for $72.  Is this a good deal?

I can modify this XLR mic to mini stereo plug but can I power this with a 9 volt battery box and get good results?

Thanks in advance.

Darren

"Includes clothing clip and windscreen. Less power module. 29.5 in. (0.75 m) cable terminated with 4-pin HRS connector for A-T UniPakœ wireless systems."

I wouldn't touch it, the word BOOOOOOOOOOM comes to mind.

however, after reading this it looks like that is can be run off of 9-52V phantom power.

As long as you trust your soldering skills...

Are you saying I would need a boom for these?  To keep 'em steady with?

I was planning to afix it to my shoulder and stand in front of the stacks at a certain venue.

Would this work or should I try for somethign else?

the BOOOOOm was for something blowing up ;)

yes, what you described will work, but honestly, you want to get the mics up as high as possible, so you should try to get a hat setup going.  Maybe cut tiny holes just above the brim for them to poke out, or clip them onto glasses.  If they are just shoulder height, they will most likely be pointing forward at the backs of the people in front of you.  You want them pointed at the speaker stacks.
