Title: Just bought my HDTV!!!
Post by: John Kelly on December 11, 2006, 08:03:10 PM
After at least a month of research over which model to get, I finally bought an HDTV.  Decided on the Panasonic TH-42PX60U.  It's one of the best reviewed sets out there (behind it's brother the 600U, but that really only adds a cable card slot which I don't need).

Finally gonna replace the 25" RCA I've had for the past 10 years. ;D

So how is this after a few weeks?

I'm thinking about making a rash decision this afternoon, entirely justified by the fiesta bowl broadcast.

I wish I knew. :(

I ordered it from Costco.com, and it said to allow for 20 days for shipping.  They didn't carry the 60U in the store, only the 6U.  I haven't gotten it yet, but I did get notice that it shipped yesterday.  I'll probably have it by the middle of next week.

Here we get a good number of the Redwings home games in HD.  I'm not much a hockey fan, but I've stopped by and watched it for a while just because the video quality of HD hockey is really pretty incredible.   Football is also really incredible.  To me, basketball is less so, but just by a little.   Haven't seen baseball yet, but I'm looking forward to it.  We're going to be getting a good portion of the Tigers home games in HD as well.

I get the local games in HD and a select few that DTV tends to send my way, but HNIC is never in HD for me....

Hockey goes without saying ;-).   The sony tube died in the dining room and Amy is going nuts trying to follow the games on a 12" monitor.  We get every game with NHL season ticket package so we have a game on constantly and usually Amy is switching between several.  Unfortunately the season pass games are in SD but I heard that if you have comcast around here the caps games are in HD.

For anyone interested in one of these panasonics, Compusa is having a deal for $1299.  I just walked out of there without one because it wont fit in my car.  I need to find a truck before the sale ends at midnight.

Damn!  That's $100 cheaper than what I got it for.

Oh well, gotta stick with CostCo because of that return policy. ;)

Did you get the 60U too?  How do you like it?

I'm almost through the break-in period (first 100 hours), and the picture is fantastic.  Right now I just have an antenna hooked up for my hi def fix, but I'm really wanting ESPN HD.  Problem is the local cable provider (Cox) only offers CBS in HD, no other local channels.  Unacceptable to me.
