Don't know if this is the right forum for this, but if the external CD burner that is hooked up to your computer starts burning faulty discs, is that a sign that it's probably ready to be replaced?

Perhaps worth cleaning the lens or trying out a different brand of CDs / DVDs?
Once, I had a DVD writer that used to work fine with Sony discs but absolutely hated Verbatim DVD-R(W)s.

It could be the discs or could be the burner.
Start with the discs if those changed. The best thing to do with discs is see where they're made. The quality goes: Japan (which I think is only Taiyu Yuden and very hard to find?), Taiwan, then everything else to varying degrees I've not experimented with...

Reboot the computer, and try it again?
Do a "test burn" or "simulation" to see if it can read the data cleanly?
Try the burner on another machine?
Try a different brand of discs?
External DVD combo drives with USB are under $20 nowadays...
