Canon SX30.....35X optical zoom!
« on: October 14, 2010, 01:40:13 PM »
Was checking these small point and shoot cams and this looks to be the best for under $450.Has 35x optical zoom,14.5 megapixel stills. And a CCD sensor.Way better for video than the Zoom q3 hd.Which has 4x digital zoom which is useless.I might snag one actually.

I own the SX20, it is a really neat camera.  Almost DSLR quality, ease of use is point-n-shoot....  I wouldn't recomend for indoor concert shots though...

Hmmm...
35x optical sounds too good to be true on a less-than-$500 point and shoot.
Even cams going for $1500+ don't have more than 16x optical (as far as I am aware).
But I'll check it out.

I suspect images and video are pretty grainy and its too big (for me)

unless you use a tripod or steady it somehow- who can shot steady video at 35X?

think there's a limit on movie recording duration. 21 minutes or so?

so concerts wouldnt be a good place to use it
