TSKB: Digital photo scanners
« on: April 22, 2011, 07:48:14 PM »
Looking to transfer some ancient film photos to jpegs. I'm looking a scanners ranging from $60 to $300 and not sure why. Any thoughts, feedback, comments welcome.

Edit to add:
My printer/fax/copier at home will scan docs but is it advised for photos? I'll give that a shot this weekend.

CanoScan LiDE 200 - $60.  best purchase for the money.  I used it to scan 9000 family photos and it's still kicking, even transporting to and from my office.

I'm totally happy with this purchase:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/577650-REG/Epson_B11B193081_Perfection_V300_Photo_Flatbed.html

Works on windows xp & mac 10.5.8 but haven't been able to get it working on my ubuntu machine, but then again I haven't dedicated that much time to get it working on that PC.
I'm very happy with the results and scan time.
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

That's exactly the one I purchased on line from B&H last week! Shipping was free so I should have it by later this week.

Got it last week and have scanned about 150 photos so far (I need to keep digging thru my boxes to find more pictures!). Only used the "Full Auto" scan but will play around with it some this week. It was easy to install and get going right out of the box. Great $89 purchase.

be careful with full auto.  It may crop around the picture OK, but it usually won't scan in the fullest quality.  I learned that with my Canon.
