Stands for on on-stage mics?
« on: May 29, 2016, 10:56:39 PM »
Looking to start using onstage mics to matrix with soundboard and back of the room mics.  Initially I'll experiment with my Studio Projects C4's onstage with Omni and cardioid caps, but am working towards large diaphragm multi-pattern mics.  I'll have AKG 460 (ck61) mics in back by SBD.  As I've never done this before, I'm looking for advise on some good options for the pair of stage mic stands.  Brands?  Size?  Footprint size/style? Other things I should consider?

Thanks

The bottom part of a guitar stand works well for.

I use a combination of stands.  I hack sawed off a few typical vocal mic stand so the leg foot print is smaller as well as the height.  I also have a couple of these combos.

Baby Stand Extension & Backlight Stand Base:

and a stud to connect the two:

^ thats a great price on what looks like a nice, cheap stand.  I'd go for the 802 version personally.  Always nice to have extra height if needed.  Though, not sure I'd trust LD's on one of these fully extended.

I like the super-low folding triangular backlight stand base tgakidis linked above.  It's lower profile, with more options, and the most stable.  I use it sometimes without any telescopic vertical section by sticking a Shure Vertbar directly into the base.  I've run many LDs on it, both on the vertical telescopic section, attached at the ends of each leg at floor level, and have even used it upside-down as a large triangular mic bar atop a larger stand or clamped to a railing for a small Deca-tree-like setup using LDs.

I have a pair of Manfrotto 003 that I use with 122B poles (and sometimes just a stud).  Solid setup, but I have been thinking about trying the Manfrotto 003M, due to it's very small size.  I am not sure about that stud, though.

I bought the Impact version of that back light stand because it was a better value than the Manfrotto, and also because the base is all black as opposed to polished chrome.  I've never used the vertical piece, but the base is very heavy and solid.  The only thing I'm looking to improve on is a way to keep the bolt / knob which holds in the 5/8" stud tight for an extended period of time.

I use these several times a week, solid low pro footprint and goes nice and high if needed: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/604456-REG/Ultimate_Support_16796_JS_MCTB50_Low_LevelTripod_Mic_Stand.html

I use the Doughty T54100 Nipper Stand. It's heavier / sturdier than the Manfrotto stand base (or its Impact clone) yet still very portable.

Excellent!  That's exactly what I want; I wonder why that didn't turn up when I found the 003M?  Thanks!  I guess I will have a pair of 003s for sale pretty shortly...

I have a couple of K&M 25950 that look very similar to those.  They are really solid and sturdy, but quite heavy.
