Incorporate a DR-60D or DR-70D with video?
« on: June 09, 2017, 06:07:59 PM »
I will be videoing a birthday roasting next weekend and will be renting a digital video camera for the event.
Besides not knowing anything about video, I am curious how to incorporate a DR-60D or DR-70D into the mix
Would love to run 4 channels, but may be hindered by the video camera (rental place only has cameras with 2 XLRs, not 4)

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

I run the 60d into my camcorder all the time
Your first issue to look into is what gear are you Using?  The 60 only has 2 xlr vs the 70 with 4
Second I believe the out is a mix of the 4 channels so unless you feel that mix is going to be good, I would recommend running 2 channels and then into the camcorder
Third the out is 1/8 so if your camcorder is xlr you will need and adapter
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

I'm running AKG actives so it's really that I am not sure how it all ties together esp. the video recorder i will likely end up using is XLR compatible also.
Is it possible to run my mics off of the 70D and use the output  of that to feed the mic input of the camera?

But that would be difficult to sync up after, I assume.

this is what I do with my 60d
Akg Naiant actives > Dr-60d (channels 1/2, channels 3/4 set at -6 duel record)
Then using the camera out
Dr-60d > canon r300 (mic in)

If for some reason I need to dub it in post,
Let's say the Dr-60d out was still overpowering the Canon r300, I'll use Final Cut Pro to "create multicam mix" and let it dub it for me.
