I just got my M-Audio Firewire 410
« on: September 06, 2003, 10:32:49 AM »
this thing is pretty cool.  I had some problems when installing the drivers, I was  apparently missing some files that were needed.  to name a few: wdmaud.drv,portcls.sys, and a few others.  So I downloaded them off the internet.  The installation went flawlessly after that.  So it is working and i'm getting locks on channels where I have data going into.  My problem is that in Wavelab in the Options>Preferences>Audio Card drop down box there is nothing listed there.  So I can't pick the FW410 to use as my input.  WTF??  I also have n-track.  In the n-track select audio card box the FW410 and all the inputs are listed, however when I choose it as my input device.  I get an error message stating that it can't start and make sure my audio card supports the selected sample rate.  Well it does!  WTF??

thanks
Wes

Good luck...having not used one, I would reccomend a clean install...as in unionstall everything that you have put in there, and reinstall and see if that helps.  You may need to switch preferences in your control panel as well.

wes, have you tried messing around in the windows device manager?  there could be a driver conflict issue in the firewire management drivers.

i don't think there is a driver conflict.  there are no exclamation points by anything.. doesn't that mean everything is ok?  I'm about to try to see if i can get it to work on my other machine.

damon-the pcmcia firewire doesn't provide power.  so your going to have to use a 12V for power.  I've talked to Frank at Cascade-media about building a 4 pin>FW410 power cord I haven't heard back from him yet.  I think it would be pretty easy to build your own.  the plug that goes into the FW410 is pretty generic.

is the 410 showing up in device manager as a device?  or when you start without the device plugged in and then plug it in to the firewire port, does a "new device" pop up show up?

i had some problems in xp home where my external dvd burner (usb2.0) wouldn't always show up in the right place.  It sometimes would show up in the usb2.0 controller tree in the device manager but not under dvd/cd drives.

it would have been nice to be able to ditch my 12v, but guess not.

Get you an ec-90, damon.  run the v3 out of the 6v and the fw410 out the 12v.  I love mine.

Well, I finally got the FW410 to work and be recognized in wavelab.  But now when I select the FW410 as the input device and hit record in wavelab the screen goes blue and i get an error message about some driver issue and one of those error codes like 00x0001200230.

On another note, I installed the FW410 on my Dell with xp with no problems and it works perfectly.
So this seems to be a windows 2000 glitch.
If anybody has a place for me to upload a comp. tape, i'd be happy to do it.
I could compare st-250>v3>FW410 to  st-250>FW410

i do have an ec-90 6v/12v combo...it's a great batt, but it would've been nice to shave that 12v weight a little...still it's not bad, all things considered.

so the fact that you are having win2k compatibility issues is pretty interesting...i haven't set up the dual boot system on my laptop yet, i may wait a while and try running xp pro instead and see how it goes...i wonder if there is a way to shut down a lot of the xp pro background processes to ensure a more stable recording environment...

yep. still no cookies.  i email m-audio tech support.  we'll just have to see how that goes.  I got a feeling they might not have an answer for me considering the thing has only been out for a week.  THIS SUCKS!

I finally got around to hooking up the whole rig in order to actually use the fw410.  Using my machine that I assumed was working.  I find out that when I select the FW410 as the input device, Wavelab and n-track give me error messages stating the audio card can't be accessed.  Starting to look like the FW410 is going to be a flop.  Definately not performing as advertised :angry2:

I'm not so sure I'm willing to give up on it altogether because you're having driver conflicts. ;)  But good luck, I really want to hear what this thing sounds like...  +t for your troubles

what service pack you using with Windows 2000?
according to M-Audio you need SP3 minimum.

also, have you tried using the Firewire 410 in standalone mode yet to power a DAT??
if not, please do and let us know!

i wasn't aware this works as a standalone unit...if it does that would be pretty sweet.  of course i'm sure wes would be happy if it just worked at all.
wes...are there any irq conflicts?  try uninstalling your laptop's sound card also.

I did just upgrade to service pack 4.

They exact windows error message I get when I hit record in wavelab is:
***STOP:0X000000D1(0X00000000,0X00000002,0XFCD4DF14)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOTLESS_OR_EQUAL
***ADDRESS FCD4D14 BASE AT FCD48000.
DATE STAMP 3F44D94E-DELTAFW.SYS
BEGINNING DUMP OF PHYSICAL MEMORY

 ??? ???
I have a dual boot system on one the original sony soundcard is disabled on the other it is not.  I get the error message no matter which side i boot into so, I don't think its the soundcard.

Is there a way to find out what this error message means?

it looks like its an IRQ conflict...go into the Device Manager and under the view menu change the view to "Resources by Connection" then click on the IRQ option and see if you find the 410 in there and if you can find a possible conflict.
