Title: Naztech PB15000 vs. Anker Astro E7 25600mAh for 661
Post by: ButchAlmberg on April 28, 2015, 09:58:13 AM
Just crunched the numbers on how much I've spent on alkaline batteries over the last year and I'm going broke. Someone at Wanne suggested the Ankers, and I know the Naztech is another viable option. Any suggestions/experiences prior to making a purchase? I'm powering a Marantz 661.

I really like my Naztech; it is a real nice battery.  I use it to power my DR-680, and it provides hours upon hours of power.  It comes with a plethora tips, so no additional cable work was needed.  Additionally, it has different voltage settings, i.e.: 9v, 12v, etc.  In theory (with a Hirose cable from Ted), I could use it to power my SD MixPre as well.

I have no knowledge of the Marantz recorder, so I can't speak to that.

HTH, Chris.

I use a small USB battery to power my 661 however I don't use 48P because I use a MixPre-D. I just ordered a small USB meter to check the draw with digital in and I will also check 48P. In another thread it was mentioned with 48P and AKG it drew about 2.5 watts so figure from there.

If it takes 5V then probably any of these newer 5V USB batteries would do the job...just need the right cable/tip

OK, so here's some numbers for you.  The specs on the Anker Astro at 25600mah...it only runs at 5V so obviously thats 25600mah @ 5V...which is 108 Watt Hours.  The Naztech PB15000 is 55.5 Watt Hours.

I looked on amazon and it looks to me like they're about the same price, so the decision you have is whether you want a battery with twice the capacity at a fixed voltage, or a battery with a variable voltage with half the capacity.

I don't know what the 661 draws, but FWIW 55.5 Watt Hours is not a small battery (I bet you'd get at least ten hours of run time), but that Anker Astro is a monster of a battey.

I have two of the Naztechs and love them, but if your only use is 5V and don't need a variable voltage battery, the decision is a no brainer.

I use this cable

Got mine custom from ted (tgakidis) for $25 shipped. No adapters and custom built for you by a taper - recommended
It does come with a usb cable and adapters but it's only a few inches long ( bound to become an issue sooner or later). Ted's is 18 inches.
