Title: Naiant (or sound proffessionals) IPA vs PFA vs Baby nbox
Post by: MBHOTAPER on November 11, 2017, 09:14:53 PM
Stealth mode for caps only to ipa/pfa/baby nbox or other to a pcm10.
Looking for differnces. I believe someone said one has 3 gain settings so would go line in and one is just phantom power for caps and would be mic in for a pcm10.
Thanks

Are you running MBHO's? (I'm guessing yes from your name).

I'm pretty sure to go into a M10 you'd need the IPA and for the HO's I think you need 2 of them.

Don't know much about the nbox.

PFA wouldn't work in this case because the m10 doesn't supply phantom power.
If you need two IPA then I feel it isn't worth it and would go bNBox. If you can go with one, then the IPA would be my choice.
I pref gain and line in over mic in

I would say by the baby nbox but **warning** Nick is a friend of mine. I know that the gear would be able to be serviced in the future. My 20+ year old Rbox can still be repaired by the guy who made it. It runs off a standard 9v battery, allowing you to use a rechargeable battery if you choose. Also, it beats the MD every time. I would feel confident taking it into any venue in the world. NIck hard wired the mic input on my R05 (I believe he did Ed's the same way) and it is bulletproof.

+1.  I would say the exact same thing.  Larry I think we may have 2 of the last remaining RBox's still running.  Anybody who can't get a baby NBox, Schoeps and a small recorder past security is doing something wrong.  Nick has also provided me a level of support that has saved my ass more times than I can count.

TM has one that Nick repaired earlier in the year and it is currently in my possession.

So nick hasn't designed a babynbox for mbho yet. I have the same problem with jon (Naiant) as everybody else - no replies to emails for weeks. Looks like no recording for john mclaughlin and jimmy herring for me  :banging head:

Ask him to make one. Not to worry, exciting stuff in the works for mbho caps.

My quoted statement wasn't a shot at Jon, just to be clear.

Hi murph,
The mbho active heads are currently in development and not too sure on a time line of their completion..ill find out and let you know..thanks,
Nick

Doesn't look like its going to happen before McLaughlin and herring. Jon has has some personal stuff going on. Pfa means phantom power box (metal). My pmd661 won't make it pass the MD. Any other ideas?

Go to the team mbho thread and see if someone has a tinybox or ipa you can borrow for a week or so. Prob cost you about $15 in postage. You have been a member here for 14 years I would trust you if I had the gear to lend. Where are you located?

Just an FYI, I had placed an order before Jon's emergency and he got back to me pretty quickly to update me on the status.  He sent out my new X-R omni caps and cables about about 3 weeks after I ordered which is about the time it usually takes.

Jon got back to me yesterday. Buying a single ipa with a stereo input (tinybox design- TA6F . Also a Y cable for my actives  2 TA4F to TA6M. Using the 2 output version xlr and stereo minijack to run to pcm10.

What did you decide to go with regarding the gain setting? Jon set my IPA at +18db as I wanted more gain on my NAK300s. I wonder if the variable setting is a better choice..
