Question about Battery Packs and UA-5
« on: April 07, 2010, 12:45:49 PM »
So I have not had a need to invest in any new battery packs for my UA-5 in several years. My question is does it matter what the mAh # is or just that it is a 9.6v ni-mh battery pack? Just trying to figure out what I can get that is compatable. I have always used 1600-1800 mAh ni-mh RC battery packs. Any insight is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The higher the mAh the longer the run time.  I use a 9v external Dvd battery, aka Wally world batteries.  They have from 4000-6000 mAh and there are always some good deals on eBay if you look around.

Yeah I have been reading about those. Going to a festival next weekend and just figure I'll grab a couple of RC battery packs as that is what I am set up to use now. I am definitly going to look into the wally world DVD batteries though for future use. Thanks for your help!

use the search function and you'll find alot more info on this fer sure!

however, a 9.6v rc battery w/ 3000mah should give you @ 6-7 hrs with the UA-5, as the draw for the UA-5 is 450mah

i decided to go the wally world way because they are more lightweight and are available in higher mah's

Do any brick and mortars sell "Wally World" type batteries anymore? I'm dusting off my gear for Bonnaroo and would rather make a local purchase than wait for a second hand battery from eBay. I have RC car type batteries (I think about 4 of them?) but would rather go with something newer and will last longer.

i got two from ebay about a year ago (early june) and I was looking to pick up another since it was about $13 a battery but the seller doesn't exist on ebay anymore.  ::)

This was a dvd 9v battery that I'm referencing, not a RC battery which seems to be around 7.2-7.8 volts.
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.
