SKM 140's X/Y with screens
« on: October 31, 2003, 11:51:00 AM »
I have what I thought was a pretty low profile pair of wind screens to use indoors with my 140's.

I tried (and did) run X/Y last night.  The first set I ran screen-free and as soon as we noticed there was a little air movement inside I decided to put them on for the second set.

Well, with the X/Y bars provided in the SKM set the capsules are VERY close to one another.  How the hell do you use windscreens with them so close?  Has anyone tried to separate the bars a little bit using a rubber grommet or something so that the windscreens don't intefere with each other as much?  Should I just shut up and not worry about it?

We were doing a psuedo A/B comparison between the skm 140's and a pair of AKG 414's set to cardioid pattern.  I guessI can compare my first and second set and then compare the two second sets.

Any insight is appreciated.

i don't think that the windscreens touching should affect the quality of the recording.  they're not moving and rubbing against each other, so no noise, right?

Try garden hose washers also. The 5/8" size works wonders.
