Title: FLAC > .pdf --- OOOPS!!
Post by: TaperBryan on December 15, 2017, 04:08:37 PM
I downloaded one of the FLAC shows in "Kickdown" today. I must have inadvertently hit something when downloading. As the FLAC files were saved and open as Adobe Acrobat .pdf files. Needless to say, I can't play/listen to the show in VLC. I also noticed that all the previous FLAC files had downloaded have now been converted to Adobe Acrobat .pdf files.

How do I fix?

Thanks in advance.

if the files downloaded completely try changing the file extension from .pdf to .flac.  I'd just redownload them......

What operating system?

It sounds like you have instructed your OS to open .flac files with Acrobat. The instructions on how to change it back to the correct association vary by operating system.

It sounds like your file association defaults got switched up.

Try START > type "default programs"

and try changing FLACs back to the program you want associated with them.

I tried that. Can't seem to make any progress getting it switched back... ???

Under Default Programs, Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program....

What program does it show is associated with FLACs?

Perhaps my company has banned FLAC files as of today?? I get this when performing Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program....

You shouldn't need mshta to open a flac.

Try Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program

See what is listed for .flac and change that to something you have installed that is working for them...

Maybe the admins don't want anyone listening to music but that seems odd.

Win 7 Pro Service Pack 1 / 64bit

You can also simply right-click any FLAC file > open with > choose default program

What happens if you use these instructions (assuming they're any different than what you've already tried).

It sounds like you changed the default program that opens FLAC files.  I would do what Gutbucket suggests.  Right click and choose "open with" and select whatever player you use to play them like Foobar or VLC.  Make sure the default program checkbox is marked.
