IS THERE A PREFERRED CF CARD TO USE W/ 744T???
« on: February 07, 2010, 12:13:20 PM »
I know high speed is better, but I was curious if any brands are preferred.  I think I'd like to try this for dat transfers as I have an SD slot on my lappy.

Thanks.

Are you talking about a Sound Devices 744T?  It does not use SD cards, it used Compact Flash (CF) cards.  Are your proposing using a SD card in a CF to SD adaptor, or using a SD card in an external FireWire card reader?

Here's what I have found and wrote up for a different thread:

To summarize, I've found the 7xx boxes to be not sensitive to CF card brand or speed.  The slowest, cheapest cards seem to work fine.  That is a good thing.  I don't own a 744T, but I do own a 702, 722, and a 788T and inexpensive cards work great even at the highest sample rates.  I suspect the 744T would be equally tolerant of CF brand and speeds.
