The Dresden Dolls are okay with video (and even gave me a video pass at a show, hooray) if the venue isn't going to be a bunch of jerks about it.

The Ditty Bops are cool with video.

Rasputina MAY be cool with video, but I had a friend get shut down for some reason that nobody ever really explained.  (and I guess they don't have to).

The Tragically Hip are OK w/ video.
At their most recent show we had 6 cameras and 4 audio rigs - in a venue that holds about 1500 people!  ;D

It is going to be one heck of a DVD!!

I can add a few artists that are cool with video:

Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise
Here Come The Mummies
Todd Snider

I have shot video of them both on several occasions. If you are a filmer and you are not shooting HCTM, you are missing out......right Sie??

Bands I've taped and not made an effort to stealth, and have been seen by security and the band and not been hassled:

Yeah yeah yeahs, Spiderbait, Frente, Gyroscope, The Butterfly effect, The Presets.

Bands I've had trouble with:

Queens of the stone age.

I got told they don't allow taping by security about 5 songs into the set, and had my tape confiscated.  :'(

Queens used to allow video not anymore as far as I know. They still allow audio.

someone else can correct me if this is untrue, cuz i never actually tried. but as of last year, yeah yeah yeahs weren't allowing taping.

edit:
i'll go ahead and post my recent experiences of bands that (some of them seemingly) don't care.

sufjan stevens, silver mount zion, daughters, land of talk, pelican , islands, the advantage, priestess, the sword.

new pornographers didn't seem to care either, but security does, and the band doesn't care that security does.

Bands I've had trouble with:
Malajube.  for a band so young i was suprised to get shut down by their tour manager.

Never had a problem.
Mics: AKG 481

American by Birth - A Southerner by the Grace of God.

I caught myself pumping the air with my fist, throwing elbows and getting down like an 18-year-old on his first mushroom trip on the lawn at Raleigh. But since every night is Saturday

I shot YYYs about 11 times from 2003-2006 and whenever i asked they said yes, their were times I stealth just cuz it was easier, like when they were opening for larger bands.  i do not know if they changed their policy or even have a taping policy, i missed the 2009 tour.  They are with Universal and I found that many many Universal bands were ok with allowing filming.

For those of you wondering if a band allows filming, try asking, look up their manager or label, you would be suprised who will say yes if you ask nicely and show you shoot good video.  With the explosion of digital cameras and cell phones they know people are shooting video anyways.

If you just like shooting bands, shoot me a PM with your location and equipment,  i know a ton of local and small touring bands that will be going out on tour and they will all be happy to let you shoot video(if you dont suck at it)
