Upgrade advice.....
« on: June 26, 2003, 04:17:36 PM »
Well, it looks like I'll be running 481's very soon  ;D

I need a pre/AD to go between the mics & D8.  I'm looking to stay around the 500.00 range since I want to go ahead & pick up the 63 caps right away.

I'm leaning towards a W-mod UA-5. But I'm only doing this for 2 reasons.

1st the price point.
2nd If I don't like the sound I'll be able to sell it quick & easy.

Please chime in if you have any suggestions. The only thing holding me back from ordering it this today is, I've never heard any tapes 480>W-U-A5>D8

Thoughts please....
Jeff~

Sometimes, its better to go ahead and take a plunge.  It may not pull the sound that you are wanting, but with as many ISO's for the mod'd ua5, you'll be able to get rid of it without a hassel.

Go for the warm-mod! I've heard nothing but good things about it! I e-mailed Doug about getting one and he was telling me he loved the 480>UA-5 (w-mod) combo.

I can't wait to hear the p-mod with my 140s I just need to find a show to go to.

Don't foget your going to need a 7-pin cable (if don't have one already) and a battery pack. That's going to add about $100

Just a question as I read here, why the warm mod for the 480's? I emailed doug the other day about which mod to get for my 391's and he suggested p mod. I thought mic brands all liked similar charecteristics?
