Wire for 3.5 mm stereo jacks
« on: November 15, 2006, 10:59:39 AM »
I didn't see this covered in the archive, I would like to know what wire people recommend for making 3.5mm stereo cables.  I have a Markertek catalog, and there is just a ton of wire.

Thanks to all

determine your needs:

1/8" stereo mini cable = 3 conductor
24 or 26ga?
do you want a shield? 3 conductor + shield

high-strand count, twisted, is better than solid core for our needs.

Ok this is why I ask.........

1/8" stereo mini cable, 3 conductor.....I 'm doing analog.  From my preamp to my JB3

I don't care what gauge, although I assume thicker is better

I do want stranded, and if you say high=strand count is better, than that what it needs to be.

I'm looking for good quality, not the most expensive per say, but a good balance of price and quality.

Thanks for the reply

you can also just use any ol mic cable of appropriate gauge.
two conductor is all you need, w/the shield being ground.
I can send you a short piece of scrap cable (its good silver clad, just short lengths I dont need) for you to use.  i'm sure i've got some in the 3' and and under size.  I'll B&P you for it.
