Extended Battery For 744T
« on: June 15, 2011, 10:34:21 AM »
Is this what I need for my SD 744T? If so, is this the biggest battery I can use (that fits in the slot)? I just need to be able to run a full 3.5 - 4 hour show using 4 channels at 24/48 (with phantom power) and the lights on.

Or is there a better one here for me to use?

In addition to the Sony/Lenmar batteries, maybe check out this system:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/208322-REG/Bescor_BPNP4_BP_NP4_NP_1_Style_NiMH.html

It plugs into the 4 pin Hirose on the side to provide a second battery power source. I believe this is what most professional sound people use for location recording. I have never used it (always relied on a 7800mAh Lenmar) but kung420 uses this setup I believe.

Lenmar 7800mAh  -  LM-LIS970P

Search around you may be able to find a slightly better price but the above battery is what alot of us 744 owners are using.  5+ hours using all four channels with phantom running on two.   I have never once had a problem with that battery.

I've had good luck buying this battery off Amazon in the past. Currently, it's cheaper than from Thomas. However, some sellers on amazon have shipped a different battery than advertised in the past (different brand/mAh rating)

I've gotten them off of Amazon as well.   I posted a link a while back in one of the Team 7xx threads to one of the reliable vendors of that battery on Amazon.  I think they were selling for around $50.

Maybe I'm preachin' to the choir here, but I urge you to run dual power with the 7xx boxes.  Not that the 7xx boxes are particularly power hungry or the attached battery is unreliable, but with two power sources you can just about quit worrying about running out of power.  I've come up with two different DIY solutions to external battery power via the Hirose connector and now I almost never use AC power.  The biggest problem with external power is soldering to the tiny Hirose connector, but there are people here who will build you a cable if you don't want to mess with it.

FWIW, I have several Hirose connectors in stock and can build a cable to suit your needs.
