Joe Meek JM27
« on: March 26, 2007, 01:57:16 PM »
The Joe Meek JM27s (matched pair) were recommended to me last saturday by a sound engineer (very good price-performance-ratio he said). Has anyone tried those mics and can you second the man's opinion? Thank you.

That's what I was told, too.

I thought I might as well find out how good the meeks are by going the most enjoyable way. Just try them - so I bought a pair at ebay for about 90 $ (incl. shock mounts and bar). The wife's not making a fuss so far (well she doesn't know yet that I ordered the mics ...)

The Meeks are at the German customs at the moment. I hope I can collect them before the weekend and go out and try them  ...

Any conclusions on your Joe Meeks?  I was under the impression that they were supposed to be a bit warmer/darker than the Studio Projects C4s.  You're right on the price, too.  Rediculous prices can be found on Ebay.  I'm curious about the LDs they make too.

Finally I had a chance to use the Meeks. IMO they performed quite well. Please see more details and a mp3-sample in the following thread: http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,84459.0.html. Looking forward to your evaluation.
Cheers from Germany - Ulrich
BTW I'm going to tape Guru Guru tonight with the Meeks ...

That's focken serious price/performance.

It looks like you ran XY for the Kraan show - did you change the mic config for Guru Guru?

I was just looking at a pair of these on eBay this morning.

Great sound on both of the samples for something, that costs under £100.

Hey guys...Sorry I have been away for so long. So much work in getting new stuff on the drawing board.

The JM27 is a very good price performance matched set of SD mics. With the TBar and those heavy duty mounts, they make a good addition to
and mic locker. We are looking at upgrading the JM series of mics now that we have finished up with the new SP-C4's...

Anything I can do, let me know
