Topic: running shorten 3.6.0 in mandrake 10.0 offical

Hey Now
 Im pretty new to linux and Im trying to run shorten 3.6.0 . Ive un tarred and compiled the program but I can get it to do anything I realize that there isnt a graphical interface as in winblows but Im really new to comand line stuff I was wondering if any one here knew of a link or had some advice as to how to make this work.
 I also realize how lame this is asking and not researching it myself.
