Taping Dub reggae show/bass roll off
« on: March 05, 2016, 11:49:23 AM »
Hi

Can anyone advise I use a TASCAM  DR-22WL, a Church Audio Bat 2B - Battery Box & Sound Professionals Omni binaural microphones.

I normally use 40hz bass roll off - as dub reggae is bass heavy would going higher on the roll off help the recording?

With omnis, try to stand as close to the sound source as possible to avoid bad room reverb.
Then, I'd not use the bass roll-off filter while recording and remove the amount of bass in post.

Here's a nice EQ Cheat Sheet I just found : http://www.cheatography.com/fredv/cheat-sheets/eq-tips/

^ I would agree with that. Only time I use roll off in recording is when the show is already so loud (largely because of sub volume) that my omnis will clip with no added preamp gain. Only happened to me once. I don't think I have or would ever need it with cards
